PH's quest for a deer gun...
« on: June 10, 2009, 01:11:30 PM »
I think I did it boys!!!whoopwhoop I decided that I needed a bigger reservoire and a better trigger system sooo, I bought  a 8 x 3/4in. piece of and made that my new reservoire. And I also bought a new ballvalve. I set all these things up to work of of co2 and my trigger system is much like airgunman's new one except that I used a paintball gun trigger system as my trigger. I went out about 5min ago and shot it. It is loud!!! I think it is louder than my .22mag, I do not have a crony yet but I am working on it, my camera broke so sorry no pics until we get a new one.

Don't know about accuracy sorry only got to shoot it 2 times and I didn't have any sights on it... I am amiganing that it is the same as my old one just more powerfull... Everything is the same except the size of the reservoire and the trigger system. I could get one hole groups all day at 30 yards with my old design.

Sounds good, I'll bet that paintball trigger looks really nice on it. I can hardly wait to see some pics when you get a camera. You'll be able to use it as a chrony of sorts too. That would be cool if we could harvest deer this year with our airguns!

I use a free program called virtual dub, it works really well, you can pick apart a video frame by frame with it. You can download it here: http://www.virtualdub.org/. If you can upload videos from the camera to your computer, you should be able to use it as a chrony. To get the speed, you will need to know the frame rate your video camera is shooting at. For example, mine shoots video at 30 frames per second. You'll want to set up the camera where you can see the airgun's muzzle as well as the target. Note what frame number the bullet exits the muzzle. Step frame by frame until you see the bullet impact the target. Let's say the target is 100 yards away. There are 30 frames between the shot and impact. 30 frames / 30 frames per second = 1 second time to impact. 100 yards = 300 feet / 1 second = 300 feet per second average speed over a 50 yard distance. The closer your target is the closer you will be to your muzzle velocity.

Thank AM I may have to try that...But one of my buddies is talking about getting a chrony so I might just wait for him to get it and try my gun over his.

So here are my numbers from GGDT after I make some modifications and get my pcp pump this is what I got... A muzzle velocity of 781fps combine that with a 185grn bullet and that gives me 250fpe!!! Those numbers are with a 20x1.5 tank filled to 1,000 psi... I am hoping to use more pressuer than that and get a little more kick out of it when the time comes we'll see... GGDT says that with the same setup at 1,500 psi would give me 900fps for an impressive 335fpe!!! wow I might have to try that.
