valve concept
« on: October 27, 2010, 07:34:05 PM »
hey everybody! so I've had this idea of a valve for an airgun that opens quickly.  Please let me know what ya think!  I think the picture details its function well but feel free to ask questions.   :)

there would be a metal rod connecting to the slide on the left, just like the one on the pin.

I wish I could make it, but I don't have a drill press big enough.  I just have a small hobby one, and I doubt that would work when milling aluminum.

Looks like a good design, I built something along similar lines several years ago, but scrapped it because of sealing issues. Like PH said, if you can get a machinist to help you, this idea can become a reality. An inline valve like that may very well outperform a good spring actuated ball valve. Keep us up to date on it if you get it built.

Thats exactly what I had to do... if I failed I would never be able to make my pump  ;D

Whats the seal thingy gonna be made of? Maybe high density polyethylene (HDPE)?
I'm not sure how much pressure it can take but its been suggested for an efficient piston material on spudfiles...

getting a machinist friend sounds like a good idea... I was worried about the seal too, may be the addition of rubber O-rings would help? or a ball valve connected between the pressure reserve and piston could work, if it wasn't leaking too much.
