I realize I am very late to this thread but I'm sure we can all use good ideas, when it comes to giving and getting free stuff. My wife and I joined yahoo groups "freecycle" a couple of years ago. It is a group where you list stuff to give away, but it has to be free. It is sort of an honor system kind of a "pay it forward' thing. People use freecycle if they have stuff to get rid of, that they don't want to bother hauling off, or just don't have enough stuff to make having a garge sale worthwhile. We have given away furniture and stuff. we have also used freecycle to clear out stuff after a yard sale. We have received A rabbit hutch chain link fence and a fair amount of building materials. Seems to me that any ambitious do it yourself-er would do well to join his local freecycle group.
They also sell fire extinguishers at Walmart, by the way.
