Gun Design - Pimp My Gun

I've found this program a while back but didnt design anything because it was the old sucky version  Now, through spudfiles I found out about this new beta version and it simply rocks.
I havent even started working on the wood of my new sniper rifle and already I'm designing a next one.. This time a low volume, high pressure with about 1m long free floating bolt/barrel.

This program is extremely useful for designing air rifle replicas or just to kill a few hours

Ahh yes 

Great thing is you can make mock T pieces, pipes, schraders, etc. to scale and greatly speed up the internals design.

hmmm, now that iv'e tried it i don't really like it. it has a bunch of pre made pieces, but i can't figure out how to make my own pieces. if you cant then its just dumb, because there are no guns i would want to virtually reassemble in there library.

You cant make your own pieces, but they are updated regularly. You can build new guns from various pieces or just assemble a gun if you know how  
You should try the old version. It has a lot more pieces but I dont really like the interface. I think the beta version is much better.

I struggled to find a decent looking gun to fit my piston valve into... but now when I have the ability to quicky design my own the options are really endless. I might even use the design above instead of the Mik 1000.
It could have much longer barrel, scope can be much closer to the barrel and all the components can be placed even closer to my shoulder making it feel lighter. Also, I could go with a free floating barrel to reduce the influence of wood onto the bolt.

I changed it a little bit.. I'm not really making a semi auto so theres no need for a gas block. Replaced that with a quad rail RIS system, the same one I have on the M4 but this time I plan to actually make the vent holes and make it not touch the barrel. Welding a piece of metal RIS to the bolt itself instead of the wood would also be a good idea.

i can't find the old one. does it have k98/Springfield type bolt actions?

Just click "Play old version" But there are no such old rifles.. probably because theres nothing you can change on them or disassemble them.

I see those rifles pretty straight forward. Basically its a length of wood and a stick as you know... nothing interesting

Go under etc./shapes and make them out of the squares and what not. For scale I use the barrel lengths...

You're right.. I dont like the design of old guns. I would use sketchup for designing some complicated rifles or even internals of some highly advanced valves far beyond piston valves.. like the ones that are actually used on commercial air rifles. But not for designing by trial and error like in Pimp my gun. For me its an asset with witch I can quickly design and see what works and what doesnt. It might not have a lot of models, but lucky me, there are the ones I need.
