Incredible little air pistol
« on: April 17, 2009, 10:39:34 PM »
I just got done with the prototype of a air pistol and it actually works really well. It is 10 inches in length and goes up to 400 psi. It is a coaxial, very similar to a lot of spudguns, in fact, right now, it is pretty much a mini spudgun. The outer tube is 1/2" type L copper pipe and the inner tube (barrel) is 1/4" type L copper pipe. It is loaded through the muzzle. My next step is to refine it and make it look a bit more like a handgun. Anyway, according to GGDT, at 400 psi, it will fire a .25" slingshot bearing at 515 fps, putting it at 9.4 fpe. If I use #2 buckshot, it will produce 10.6 fpe at 406 fps. Either way, if accurate enough, it will take down squirrel and rabbit with ease. Might even have to put some darts together for it.  ;D Its getting late, so the pictures will come later so stay tuned...

I attached a picture of the air pistol to this post. It still needs a grip and the trigger worked on, but it does shoot hard. I shot a .25" bearing at a .25" red oak board and it went through, spitting the board in half. This current configuration makes its overall length 11.25" and its power is greater than a Crosman 2240. I think I can make it look pretty nice too. A nice thing about this pistol is that it doesnt take much to pump it up. Much less than my last airgun.  :)
BTW Pellethuntr, I like your signature, I hope that there are more of us out there that believe in what our founding fathers believed in, even if that makes us terrorists in homeland security, my state, and the current administration's eyes.  >:(

EDIT: This morning I added a blowgun to use as a trigger. Now I can hold it more like a pistol. I'm still puzzling over how to make it look better, but an idea will come soon, I'm sure.

You should put a 2250 stock on that bad boy!!! By the way what did you use for a barrel?

I've got a 2250 stock lying around, I'll have to see if I can fit it. I used 1/4" type L copper tube for the barrel. Lowe's had some 12" lengths of it. I cut mine down to 7.5". My wife just had our 2nd baby yesterday, so it might be awhile before I can continue this project.  ;D I can usually find time between all my responsibilities, so we'll see where this one goes...

Thanks, hopefully he will. My oldest (almost 2 years old) loves to "help" me work on airguns. In fact, he gets mad if I go off to the garage to test fire or use my power tools. lol
Here's the picture of it with the blowgun attached as a trigger:

I got my old 2250 stock out to see how it would all fit. The slot in the grip needs to be made wider, other than that it works like a charm. It has me interested in a submachinegun style .40 cal airgun...  ???
