new pump
« on: July 11, 2010, 01:14:19 PM »
last night i built a new pump useing the modified q/c for a low head space check valve i had to do some rearangeing on my gun to hook it to the gun so last night i just screwed a 600 psi gauge right to the end of it was able to to wrap the needle around to the peg 600+ psi ive fiddled with screwing it right to the back of the gun and standing on the handle and pumping the gun up and down not ideal but was able to hit 300 psi easy enough but had a hard time gettin past that still need to do a little tweaking but it is real promising im nearly sure i could charge a smaller chamber to 600 or so with out much trouble

Make sure there is a minimal gap between the one way valve and the piston O ring. You wont get to your desired pressure if there is too much dead space  ;D

Whats your cylinder ID?

its 1/2"  and the head space is quite small but i might be able to get it a bit smaller prolly not much though i am gonna make it a bit taller though it increase volume
right now im running about 18 ci for my firing chamber

Cool  ;D I'm making one myself, having problems with getting the head done tho... cant find a machinist who would want to make something like that.

i used  a modified 3/8 quick connect for my head i did use a lathe but im sure it could have been done with a5/8 drill bit
buy the way i put a bit smaller tank on the gun and hooked the pump straight to the gun it takes 50 strokes to get to 450 psi its not too much work way better than trying to carry a ac compressor and extension cord into the field

I would like a modified pump head from the beto shock pump.. it works very well and doesnt let any air when you disconnect it.

ok there seems to be a problem useing these for a head the washer thats in them just cant handle it not sure if its the heat or what but it does get hot and the washer is mich softer when it fails than it was originaly im trying to sorce  some made from some super stuff the sizes are fairly comman numbers so it shouldnt be too hard to find some made from some super stuff and even if they r expensive i wouldnt think it would be too much considering what it is so keep your fingers crossed im still excited about having air in the feild even if i cant find a better washer i can still carry spares and a couple of pliers in the feild easier than a ac compressor and cord

Nice! Can you show us the insides of the one way valve?

I was using all thread M8 for the handle and it was bending like hell too so I took a piece of 3/4 green pvc and sleeved it with a piece of 1.5mm thick aluminum tubing. The aluminum would bend on its own but its hard pvc filler takes up space inside and prevents it from doing so. The interesting thing is that the PVC can actually bend. I guess its because of the tight fit between the 2.

Btw. how do you attach a washer at the end like that for the piston? I have a nut on there and its adding too much dead space...

i want to make a pump, because my shock pump takes forever to pump up the big guns with, but it needs to attach to a schrader, i'm thinking i'll use 3/4 inch copper, and have a place for my shock pump to screw on for the pressure gauge, i think it will be about two feet long, which should pump up the sniper pretty quickly. i want to know what i should do for the one way valve?

that valve on the end it a 3/8" female quick connect i removed the retaining ring and the retaining balls and bored out the barrel section then slodered it onto the copper tubeing  then replaced the guts that consist of a spring a little metal plug and a washer ill go take it apart in a min and take pics cept the washer i sent it with a parts guy today to try to get some better ones

heres a couple more pics

thats the seating face where the rubber washer would go if i still had it

thats the two halves of the valve

this one has the spring and the piston that would seal against the washer
