switcharoo
« on: July 06, 2010, 08:56:04 PM »
Ive been havin problem with gittin real psi through a schrader sure the valve held ok but the hose and connector kept failing so like the rest of yall i decided to go with qc's but i didnt want to add a ball valve for a fill valve and add all that volume to dump sooooo I swapped ends put the mail end on the compresser and the female end on the gun if that way when i release the compressor bleeds out and the gun stays pressured bad thing thopugh the female qc im useing leaks i hope putting a better one will hold we shat see but at least i can hit 500psi again

I put the female on the compressor and the male on the airgun. I do have a ball valve that keeps the pressure in, under ideal circumstances, I'd prefer a check valve. I just cant find any good ones around here, sometime I'd like to build one into a male fitting.

the female it basicly a check valve and it releases the pressure on the compessor when you disconect my compressor wont start under pressure

Mine wont start under pressure either, so I installed a T fitting and another valve to bleed the system down before disconnecting the fittings. The check valve I'd like to have or build would have no leaking upon disconnecting. It would be very similar to those found in multipump airguns like the crosman 1377. I've had limited success using a airsoft pellet and spring, perhaps some precision ball bearings would work better...

ok I took apart a female q/c this evening  I think that if you remove the outer colar and the spring that goes with it push out the steel retaining balls then tap it to 1/4 ip might need to drill it but it looks like it would be close enough also might need to either patch up the holes from the retaining balls or add lots of teflon tape then you would have a nice small check valve

ok this is the other post i mentioned a while ago in another post and pics will follow tomorrow if all goes well
i metentioned taking apart a female q/c (this is for a steel q/c) well do that pop ouy thr little balls and stash them in your junk drawer along with the collar and the laege spring that went with the collar they might come in handy for something else sometime, make sure you get the rubber washer out of the barrel part put it witl the nut part and the rest of the guts, take your dremmel or whatever and remove the coating  from the top of the barrel and around the 3-4 holes where the balls were  set that aside for the moment now grab a male q/c that used to fit that female also steel put a cut off wheel in your dremmel or just use a grinder or hack saw to remove the tip  like from the indent down debur it and clean it up abit also remove the coating in the indent area now shove this in the barrel section of the dissassembled  female q/c put a clamp on it from end to end not too tight dont want to misshape the threaded parts
ok now plug weld the holes where the balls were yeah you got to have a welder for this or take it somewhere you can get it welded ok then weld around the top of the barrel section of the female and just under the threaded section of the male part let it cool and reinstall the guts in the barrel section you now have a small high pressure check valve with 1/4"npt either male or female threads on each end depending on the q/c's you chose

I hope this made sense if it didnt the pics tomorrow hopefully will help i think also insetad of welding you may be able to tap the barrel section  also im workin on boring out a 3/8 q/c to solder in a 1/2" copper tube to make a pump with real small headspace thats where i think this will realy shine as low headspace check valves seems to be what brings everyones air pump projects to an end

and all the typical discalimers apply i dont know how you weld i wont rate it for any pressure its up to you to determine what you think is a safe working pressure domt blame if you hurt your self and so forth

I have installed one of these on my gun as a fill valve so far it holds 500 psi i do have a teeny leak on the fill side it only leaks when filling i have been able to remove the gun from the compressor and re connect it with out it discharging the gun can even bleed down the compressor before disconecting the gun

well i against my better judgment went to fix that teeny leak cleaned it all up and welded it with flux core and a hood i cant line up with my eyes i think i got the leak fixed but i over penetrated where the threads are and the sealing face i think i could save the face but i dont have the right tape to save the threads and as cheap as the part is its probably mot worth the trouble but up to that point it worked realy well ill make another one at work tomorrow with gas sheild and my good hood
