I got some measurements on the solenoid valve on my dishwasher, it is 2.5" tall, 1.25" wide, and 2.25" deep. The outlet is on the side, which gives you the ability to use a flexible hose to route it where ever necessary. Not sure if it will help, but here is a crappy picture with the different parts labeled:

Thanks for all the input guys! It looks like I need to go get a couple of the solenoid valves and start cutting them apart to see how they work, and if there's any way to decrease the size of them (including machining a new housing if needed)...

@Forum Admin: Thanks! I'll take a look at those, and try to figure out how big the pressure regulators are, as well as whether they actually stop the flow when pressure is reached, or if they simply regulate how much is passing through them... I'd like to assume the former, but will have to verify with them. The only issue I have with the toggle switch is that it's a hard switch, and integrating it into the trigger mechanism could be a bit problematic, but I'll need to peruse their products and see what they have, as well as how much it can be modified...
