Watch your trigger control too. Make sure its a slow and consistent pull to the rear. And when you do pull the trigger all the way and the rifle fires dont just remove the finger from the trigger ASAP. Keep it there and reset it intentionally. Self control!
To check if you have a steady rest, aim at the target, close your eyes for 10 sec, open your eyes and if you're off target by a few feet, your rest is not stable enough. I used this technique when sighting in and testing my bipod. You only want to control the trigger while on a rest, not hold the gun.
And make sure the trigger hand is not supporting any weight of the rifle while shooting. It all has to be between your reaction hand and weapon shoulder.
