Greetings from California
« on: June 20, 2010, 08:56:24 PM »

Greetings!

I'm currently working on a fully automatic derivation of the Caselman in a FN SCAR/AR body.

Hope to get help and provide it as well!,

Welcome to the boards, very nice model. Do you plan to use the original Caselman caliber?

modeling is time consuming but to get the correct materials is the task.  :)

I thought about it but I've decided to go with .22 .

Given that .22 is the next most available caliber with so many different types for exotic ammo manufacturing.

modeling is time consuming but to get the correct materials is the task.  :)

Already have the materials picked out, 6061 aluminum and 303 stainless steel for the barrel. I'm going to have this monster CNC'd and hopefully that will result in a box of parts that will all work.  ;D

However I'm going to work on a redesign, I had originally designed this to be an electric DROZD style air gun but after I saw and heard the thing and was introduced to the caselman, I decided against it and am now going with a mechanical system. I had originally designed it to work with 88 gram co2 cartridges but those seem to be rather pointless with something like a caselman that uses a gas blowback system. Of course I plan on modifying it to suit my needs but essentially it will stay the same and will end up wasting some co2 to recock the rifle.

What i mean by system is the rifle body really. the forend and that cap below the barrel was where an 88 gram co2 tank was going to be stored but that turned out to be a mistake.  I had originally hoped to house it in the buffer tube/butt stock but I found out it's about .2 inches too small for the tank.

However that won't be a problem now that I'm switching to a paintball tank system. I'm designing this thing so it will work with existing ar15 parts such as grips, stocks and also any picatinny rail accessories to save myself from designing my own and accept popular features people may already be used to.

The bottom receiver is a Magpul lower receiver body however I have modified it to the point where it cannot become a real firearm without some serious modification and planning, and by that time the person in question would have been better of building a lower receiver from scratch.

So far I've completely shifted gears. Instead of building a caselman inside an m4 body, I've decided to basically make this a co2 powered m4. Using the same bolt, and modified components since I'm not shooting a 5.56 cartridge, I'm shooting a .22 pellet things like the firing pin and the blowback system may have to be slightly modified. I'm thinking I'll have to adjust what materials I use to something lighter given that this thing is going to operate at much lower pressures.

That would be awesome, I remember seeing a very nice airsoft gun built in a AR-15 body. A .22 pellet gun built that way would be very awesome. If you have access to HPA, you could even go higher pressure (3000+ psi) and use 5.56 bullets. It would be pretty neat to send a 55 grain bullet flying at between 700 and 800 fps.  ;D Being in the state of California makes it even better with their draconian gun laws.

my next project I believe is going to be putting a between .22 and .223 barrel on my gun...GGDT says that if I keep the configuration I have I will get a 60 grain bullet up to 850fps for around 100 fpe

you may be surprised how loud this will be...... i always thought air guns would quiet, but that sonic boom and escaping gas make my ears ring every time..... also if you don't fire all the air in the chamber at once it wont be as loud, or as powerful, but you will get multiple shots.  ;D
