You are getting there.

Are all your darts working or do a few fall apart?

(as a few of mine manage to do)

Please post a photo of your darts an explain how you make them.

i had 1 dart fall apart or blow out rather im making them out of postit notes i grab the corner with my needle nose gerber multi pliers and twist them around those i put a little piece of duct tape on the seam i then put it in a section of barrel and mark it for cutting cut it cut the point off of it drop a nail in it and add a 3/8" strip of duct tape to the nail cone joint their not real pretty but build up fast and easy with no dry time i may have to go to something else when i start looking for accuracy but for now these work they are usualy ruined after 1 shot at plywood @ 20 ft @50 yds i can shoot them quite a few times the bright colors of the postit paper in the cone make it easier to see the flight like a tracer ive also made some with just duct tape folded on itself then twisted and taped they worked ok as well

Using a plumb bob as the mold, I wrap thick paper (0.020") around it and use hot melt glue a few times as it rolls on a sheet of metal.

The metal quickly cools the glue.

I cut the cones to length as you do.

I insert the 3" nail just through the tip of the cone.

Then I apply a gob of hot melt glue to the nail head and  pull it through to complete the nail dart.

If my chrony isn't lying, I hit 752 fps this afternoon at 200 psi.

The Dart went Wham!!!!

I betcha that anyone who shoots a .22 would be impressed with 110 grains going at 752 fps at a cost of $0.03 per round.

Boar,

Make 5 or 6 darts and see how many it takes to make an ounce.

My darts weigh in at just about .25 oz.

Use a postal scale or a foo scale at home or visit the the post office (weigh envelope first).

To compare, we need to know the weight of your darts compared to mine.

I do not get consistent results.

I keep making them and shooting them until it feels right.

I do not yet have a perfect recipe.

I do believe that a slightly loose fit to the barrel is superior to a tighter fit.

BTW I pressurize first and then slide the loaded barrel into the breech.

Are you sure that your darts are at the breech position when you shoot?

I used a PEX tubing with a string as a muzzle lading ram and I left it in the barrel as I pressurize.

Stand aside the barrel and pull the PEX out using the string.

AWESOME!

When you shoot a screaming dart it is like no other kind of shooting.

At 50 yards that dart would have easily brought down most local game.

You got me beat. So far, I have not been able to go above 200 psi.

I intend to double the tail paper thickness.

Keep up your great work.

Congrats on getting your high pressure air, boar! Stu, I've been using regular 20# paper for my cones. To get them to work with higher pressure, I fill them 3/4 full with hot glue. This prevents them from blowing out. At 10 feet, they fly straight, I've not tested one outdoors to see if it has long range stability. Adds a bit of weight too, at 200 psi, they bury right up to the head and make quite a mess of the tail.

"they bury right up to the head and make quite a mess of the tail." >  A beautiful sight.

I am attempting to avoid the extra glue weight.

Hint:  Paper cones and a pencil/marker allows me to number/color my darts.

heres another trick.. if you want to turn your darts into tracers buy one of those cheap glowing party lights you break and then they give off light. Dip the paper into the glowing liquid and they should glow for a few hours. I dipped one in green and shot it in the distance on a field...its a pretty nice sight, you should try it

today i reworked my airgun its still very prototypeish i beefed up the duct tabe action mouting system added a electrical tape bushing to engage a barrel band on closing the breach and added a little dot sight im trying to get it sorta feild ready as i may have the oppertunity this next weekend to try to shoot a pig (dont worry ill have plenty of backup firepower) tomorrow i plan to try to sight it in with 240 gr bullet darts @ 20-30 yds ill also have to try to get them more stable and more consistant hope it works out that would make a cool pic
